There are 2 main pre-schools that feed into the school, Shaw Ridge playgroup and Holy Trinity Acorns.

Shaw Ridge playgroup- opened in 1984. The playgroup is located in Shaw Ridge Primary School, which offers many benefits - not least their association with the school which assists your child's smooth transition into full time education.  The group is registered to care for 26 children.  Children attend for a variety of sessions. The setting supports children who have English as an additional language and children with special educational needs.

The playgroup opens five days a week during school term times. Sessions are from 09:00 until 11:45 each morning, and 12:15 until 14:45 each afternoon.

‘Children thoroughly enjoy a broad and balanced programme of experiences which are generally well matched to their stages of development.’ OFSTED October 2006

Overall the quality of the provision is good.
"Children make good progress in their learning. Effective arrangements are in place to ensure their safety and health and encourage their involvement in their playgroup and wider community. Strong links with parents help to involve them in their children’s care and education, and they are kept very well informed of their children’s progress. Staff have an accurate understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the provision and take effective steps to improve it." OFSTED 2010
