Project X code is a new reading intervention from Oxford University Press.  It follows a structured synthetic phonics programme and links in with the 'Letters and sounds' scheme that we use in school.  The scheme features exciting adventure stories all centred around a theme park where you have to shrink to get in and a computer that has gone wrong and is trying to take over the earth!  This scheme is used with Year 2, 3 and 4 children who are falling behind with their reading.  All children in these year groups have access to the e-books.'

Bug Club

KS1 children and have access to Bug Club. Bug Club is a whole school reading programme. It combines colourful books and an online reading world, filled to the brim with child friendly characters, to encourage children to read and become confident young readers.

Wonder Words

In KS1 we have introduced something called Wonder Words.  Wonder words are high frequency words that we encourage the children to read without sounding out, in the hope that when they see the words in books they are reading they wont need to sound them out, thus increasing their fluency.

The words start at a very easy level and gradually increase in difficulty.  Although each set of words is linked to a colour, they aren't linked to the colour of book that your child brings home to read.

Wonder words are started in Year 1 and carried on into Year 2 if necessary.
